Imam-e-Zamana (a.s.) and Allamah Sayed Mahdi Bahrul Uloom(r.a.)

Allah has always been more merciful to His servants. After their creation, they were not left on their own; rather He sent several guides for their guidance. Even today, despite the occultation of Hazrat Imam-e-Zamana (a.t.f.s.), He has ensured that the course of guidance is not disrupted. He has made a provision to the effect that some select persons are associated with the Holy Imam (a.s.) who then provide the essential guidance to the people at large. It will not be an exaggeration to state that these select personalities can easily be regarded as Hazrat Salman (r.a.) and Hazrat Abuzar (r.a.) of the modern world. In this period it is through these chosen men that Allah has conveyed the knowledge of the Holy Imams (a.s.) to the people. We have featured brief biographies of eminent scholars in our earlier editions. We will cast a glance at the life of Allamah Sayed Mahdi Bahrul Uloom (r.a.) in this edition. Birth and early life He was named Mahdi and his father was Sayed Murtuza Tabatabai Burujardi (r.a.). His lineage can be traced to Ibrahim (who was known as Tabataba), a descendant of Hasan Mussanna who was from the progeny of Hazrat Imam Hasan Mujtaba (a.s.). (Aa’yaanush Shia by Sayed Mohsin Ameen, Vol. 48, pg. 164) Allamah Sayed Bahrul Uloom was born in Karbala on Thursday in the month of Shawwaal in...

The Arising (reappearance) of Hazrat Mahdi (a.s.) and the Descent of Janabe Isa (a.s.)

The belief regarding the reappearance of Hazrat Mahdi (a.s.) coupled with the descent of Hazrat Isa (a.s.) from the sky, is among the more commonly accepted beliefs of the Muslims. In fact, even the Christians acknowledge the decent and reappearance of Hazrat Isa (a.s.). Rather for them, Hazrat Isa (a.s.) himself is the promised deliverer from oppression and tyranny. In the light of traditions, of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.), the rightly guided Imams (a.s.), and their companions (a.r.), it can be proved beyond doubt that Imam Mahdi?s (a.s.) reappearance, shall be closely followed with the descent of Hazrat Isa (a.s.) from the fourth heaven. The latter shall then recite namaz behind Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.), and support him in his mission. This being a widely acknowledged belief, the compilers of Sehaah-e-Sittah, Janabe Mohammad Ibn Ismail Bukhari (in his Sahih in Kitabul Ambiya) and Imam Muslim Ibn Hajaj (in his Sahih in Kitabul Imaan) have extensively quoted the companion of the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) Abu Hurrairah, in this regard. (1) The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) declared, ?What will happen to you when Isa ibn Maryam (a.s.) descends (from the heavens) and your Imam is in your midst. (Sahihe Bukhari 13/57, Pg. 1272, Kitabul Ambiya; Sahih Muslim, 29/ 1, Pub. by Darul Furqan, 722, Jame Masjid, Delhi, Kitabul Iman) (2) Imam Muslim has also reported a tradition from the famous companion, Jabir Ibn Abdullah...

The companions of Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.) in the light of Quran and traditions

All the sects of Islam in general, and in particular, the Shiah are steadfast in their belief, that prior to the advent of the Day of Judgement (Qiyamat), injustice and inequality will be rife in the earth. In such a condition, Allah, through His Proof (Hujjat) will fill the earth with justice and equality, as it will be filled with injustice and oppression. Execution of this momentous mission of altering the administration of the world requires the presence of an equally great personality. We all are aware that the great person being referred to here, is none other than Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.). To complete his divine mission successfully, Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.) will naturally require supporters and helpers. Inshallah, with the help of Allah and the grace of Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.), in this brief treatise, we shall delve into the characteristics of those personalities who will form the group of helpers of Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.). Using the Holy Quran and traditions of our Holy Imams (a.s.), we shall try to find about more about those who will assist him (a.s.) in cleansing this earth from the stain of injustice and inequality and replacing it with justice and equality. We shall divide our discussion into two sections; 1.The companions of Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.) in the light of verses of Holy Quran. 2.The companions of Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.) in the light of...

Titles of Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.) in the Exegeses of Holy Quran

Holy Quran is one of the miracles of our noble prophet Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa (s.a.w.a.). It is the book of Allah whose words were communicated from time to time through the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.). Allah has not left anything unexplained in His book and none can claim: “Had so and so been explained in the Quran” because the creator of the universe has gathered all the knowledge and sciences in His eloquent Book. Any knowledge, which man is in need of, or will ever be, has been recorded by Allah in His eloquent book. Moreover, all the Muslims unanimously accept the fact that every belief found in Holy Quran is an Islamic belief and the true religion. Neither is it within the scope of this article to mention even briefly the sciences found in the Holy Quran, nor can anyone fathom its deep meanings. In order to understand any book, one is in need of a teacher and explanator. Similarly to understand and comprehend Quranic Knowledge too we need a teacher and an explanator. Therefore Allah the Almighty has appointed teachers for His book who explain its meanings and interpretations. To explain the Quranic knowledge and wisdom Allah has raised people who possess wisdom and knowledge. They are the keys to the treasurers of divine knowledge and the explanators for every difficult concept. Hence in order to understand the...

The Belief concerning Imam Mahdi (a.s.) and the scholars of Ahle Sunnat

Every era has a distinct Imam (leader). Some people consider the Holy Quran to be an Imam. There are others who differ. The Holy Quran is not a book for any specific age rather it is a book for all times. The discussion about the Imam of the Age assumes greater importance in the light of the 71st verse of Surah Bani Israel, (Remember) the day when We will call every people with their Imam. It is with reference to this verse of the Holy Quran, that both Shiah as well as Sunni traditionalists have reported the famous tradition of the Holy Prophet of Islam (s.a.w.a). One who dies without recognizing the Imam of his Age, has died the death of (the era of) ignorance. There are some who allege that the belief in Imam Mahdi (a.s.) is only concocted by the Shias to soothe their hearts that were afflicted by defeats in history. This allegation necessitates a discussion on whether the belief in Imam Mahdi (a.s.) is peculiar only to Shias, or is it found in other sects of Islam as well .When we glance at the books complied by the scholars of other sects, it becomes clear that their reliable books, not only extensively discuss about Mahdaviyat but also consider the belief in Imam Mahdi (a.s.) as a pure Islamic belief. They accept that traditions in this...
