AWAITED SAVIOUR Islamic concept about the Awaited Saviour The figure more legendary then that of the Mahdi, the Awaited Saviour, has not been seen in the history of mankind. The thread of the world events have woven many a fine design in the human life but the pattern of the Mahdi stands high above even other pattern. He has been the vision of the visionaries in history. He has been the dream of all the dreamers of the world for the ultimate salvation of mankind he is the pole star of hope on which the gaze of Humanity is fixed. Janab Sheikh Sadooq and Allama Majlisi (May God Shower His blessing on on them) the highly acclaimed Islamic Scholars have described these narrations among the signs and symbols of the re-appearance of Imam (A.S.) Here we will discuss them wholly form literary point of view. 1. Importance of signs and symbols of re-appearance of Imam (A.S.) The Holy Prophet (S.A.W.S.) said, “The best worship is to await for the reappearance.” (Kamaaluddin vol.1 Pg.287, Faraidus Simtain vol.2 Pg.335) Amirul Momineen Ali (A.S.) said, “Await for the reappearance and do not despair of the divine mercy. Because the best deed in the eyes of Allah, the Great and the Mighty is to wait for the Reappearance. It is the duty of those who are believers.” (Al Khisaal vol.2 Pg.616) Imam as-Sajjad (A.S.) said. “The greatest success is to wait for the reappearance” (Al Ihtejaj vol.2 Pg.154. Kamaaluddin vol.1 Pg.320) Imam Jafar as-Sadiq (A.S.) said, “Those of you who die on this affair (shia faith) while you are in a condition of awaiting, are like those who has served the Qaem (A.S.) in his tent.” (Ghaibat-e-Nomani Pg.200) Imam Al-Jawad (A.S.) said, “Certainly the Qaem from among us is the Mahdi. Awaiting for whom is obligatory during (his) ghaibat and obeying him is obligatory after his reappearance. THE LAST LUMINARY At dawn, on the 15th Sha’ban 255 AH., the rays of the illuminating world shone with a powerful shaft of light into a human form which became the source of existence for the universe. Yes, finally, the Divine Promise was ful­filled and Imam al-Mahdi (a.s.) was born in spite of the efforts of those who denied him. It is one of history’s miracles that the Umayyids, ‘Abbasides and other opponents of this Holy Imam attempted to extinguish this divine light but met with complete failure. The cruel and tyrannical caliphs of the Bani ‘Abbas had heard that the Twelfth Imam of the Shi’ites would establish a just Government and would rule over the east and west of the world, and would destroy the foundations of injustice. Therefore, to counter this event, they tortured and shed the blood of the Shi’ites as much as they could. The conditions of the martyred Shi’ites can be referred in the books on this subject. In the year 235 A. H., Mutawakkil, the ‘Abbasid caliph, ordered the Tenth Imam Muhammad al-Hadi (a.s.) and his family to be shifted from Medina to Samarra, his seat of government, so that he could keep a close watch on the Imam of the Shi’ites. WITNESSES OF THE BIRTH OF IMAM-E-ZAMANA (A.T.F.S) Various objections have been raised regarding the birth of Hazrat Mahdi (A.T.F.S.). Keeping in mind the necessity for brevity we shall discuss only two types of objections- hoping the sensible people would be able to get the replies to other objections too. First of all is the objection that if the birth of Hazrat Mahdi (A.T.F.S.) has already occurred then a tradition in support of this should be shown to them in the Sahih-e-Bukhari or Sahih-e-Muslim (the two most popular books of hadith for Sunnis). They are willing to believe only after seeing such a hadith. Actually this objection is based neither on Shariat nor on reasoning and understanding. Rather, by refusing to believe in the birth of Hazrat Mahdi (A.T.F.S.) they have doubted the power of the Almighty Allah. Apart from this the objection is so foolish that any wise person would feel amused. Why should the Sahih-e-Bukhari & Sahih Muslim be considered the touchstone for proving the veracity of every fact ? At least they have not demanded the date of birth from the Holy Quran! This objection could be replied to in numerous ways but here it would suffice to give only three replies:- 1.
